Household Task Support in South East Melbourne

A home becomes unsafe or isolating when dishes, laundry, and meals pile up and there is no reliable way to catch up. Family members step in until they cannot, or the job is simply left. Household task support is NDIS help with domestic work so your home stays liveable.

Melbourne Care Ability provides household task support for participants across South East Melbourne. We help with cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation as agreed in your plan. You decide what a comfortable home looks like. We do the agreed tasks, or we coach you through them if building the skill is also your goal. Support starts only after a service agreement.

What are household tasks, and why you need them

Household tasks are domestic assistance in your home. Typical work includes cleaning, laundry, dishwashing, and preparing meals. The point is a home you can live in safely and with less stress.

You may need this support if disability, fatigue, pain, or time makes domestic work unrealistic. A clean kitchen and food in the fridge are daily foundations, not extras.

This support is not personal care, which assists your body, and it is not a commercial cleaner hired outside the NDIS. It is also different from life skills development, where the aim is to teach you the task. We can combine doing and teaching only when both supports are funded and you want that.

Our household tasks process

  1. 1

Step 1: Walk through the home tasks

We ask which jobs are slipping, which rooms matter most, and what you want done your way.

  2. 2

Step 2: List what is in and out

The agreement names cleaning, laundry, meals, or other domestic tasks. We exclude anything you do not want touched.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Set a rhythm

Visits follow a pattern you can rely on, such as a weekly clean and a meal-prep session.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Adjust the list

If your health or household changes, we review the tasks rather than guessing.

Frequently asked questions

What household tasks will you do?

The agreement lists them. Common tasks are vacuuming, bathroom and kitchen cleaning, laundry, dishes, and preparing meals. We do not provide trades such as plumbing, and we do not do another person’s housework in a shared house unless that person has their own support.

Will you bring cleaning products?

We can use products you prefer in your home. Tell us about allergies, fragrance, and any products you do not want used. If you need us to supply products, we will agree that before the visit.

Can you help me cook meals from my culture?

Yes. Tell us the meals, ingredients, and any rules about food preparation. If we cannot match a worker who knows that cuisine, we will still follow your recipes and instructions.

Is a support worker allowed to clean every room?

Only the rooms and tasks in the agreement. You can exclude bedrooms, religious spaces, or paperwork areas. A worker should ask before opening cupboards or moving personal items.

Can household support and personal care happen in one visit?

Only when both are funded and rostered. We do not swap hours between supports. If you need both, tell intake and we will see whether one worker can cover the agreed tasks in the right categories.

Make the home workload manageable

Tell us which jobs are piling up and how often you need someone there. We will confirm whether household task support fits your plan and what a first visit could cover.
